My name is Susie and I started my love affair with horses when I was eight. You can read my journey starting here.
Of course it’s not unusual for girls to begin a love affair with ponies at that age and many of us have continued that passion throughout our lives. This is really a journal through my life, recalling some of the wonderful times I’ve spent with these most precious of creatures.
There’s something about horses that only those of us who are smitten understand. I don’t profess to be any sort of expert, least of all at riding, but I’ve always enjoyed the company of our equine friends and the love and affection they give us, as well as the thrills of riding and jumping.
At the age of 65 I’m determined to get back in the saddle, although at this stage of my life I’m far too overweight for anything but a large and sturdy beast! Ideally I should have another horse at home, but the work is too much and our small, damp paddock isn’t really sufficient for 2 horses and I hate to see one alone without a companion.
So I shall start riding at the local yard and perhaps, if funds allow, progress to a horse kept at full livery. Or perhaps to share one that is fully cared for so I can just pop along for riding and cuddles.
Can’t wait to get back on board, but in the meantime here are some of my tales.
